We asked around, and here are our top favourite life hacks for being a little bit organised at home and making life a little easier. When you have small children, anything you can do to help save time and effort is worth it. Perfection is not the aim here, just simplicity.

Laundry - When hanging out washing, place anything possible straight onto coat hangers to dry, this helps clothes to dry smoothly and once dry you can put them straight into your wardrobe. Have plenty of laundry baskets, and use each one to sort as you are taking things off the clothesline. Have two dirty clothes baskets, one for whites and one for everything else!

Cooking - Double everything! If you can, get in the habit of doubling the ingredients for every meal you make, and have the leftovers the next day, or freeze them for the nights you don’t have time to cook. Make a list of the meals your family loves to eat, and when meal planning (also, meal plan!) you can pick straight off of this list. Once a week make and freeze some muffins, and you will build up a great supply of lunchbox friendly snacks.

Get your shopping delivered or use click and collect - if you’re not already doing this, I cannot stress this enough: IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! I wish I had done it earlier, instead of trying to shop with a toddler sitting in the trolley trying to grab things off the shelf and a baby who refused to sit in the trolley (have you ever tried to unload your groceries and hold a squirming baby at the same time? Me too.).

Pack the night before - school bag, work bag, baby bag. Something that will take you 5 minutes to do the night before, will take you ten times longer in the morning, especially if you have kids! Look, we are a bit biased here, but if you have a few bags pre-packed with the essentials for the regular activities you do, then your life will feel a little less chaotic. Have a baby bag with spare nappies, sunscreen, hat, and spare clothes. Keep a work bag with a spare phone charger, headphones, lip balm, small clutch with panadol, tampons, etc. Anything already packed, is one less thing to think about and/or find when you’re trying to get out the door on time.
